Frequently asked questions

Who can use the site?

Anyone 18 or older who lives in the U.S. (currently the New York and New Jersey area) and can communicate in Japanese can sign up.

Are there any fees?

Signing up and posting are free; fees apply only when a request is booked. For details, see Fees.

When are helpers paid?

The payment the requester makes by card when booking is held by us until the work is done. Once the job is complete, Stripe automatically transfers the price minus a 10% fee to the helper’s registered bank account (usually within a few business days).

Will I get a refund if I cancel?

If the requester cancels, the price for the job is refunded in full until the day before the start date. The service fee (5%) is not refunded. If the helper withdraws, you receive a full refund including the service fee. For details, see Fees.

What can I ask for?

Cat and dog care, babysitting, help with Japanese homework, house-sitting checks, housework, and help with moving and carrying things. Requests to drive people (such as airport rides) are not currently accepted, because they may require state or city permits.

Can I ask someone to look after my cat while I visit Japan?

Yes — it is one of the most common requests. Post a request with the dates, how often (for example, once a day) and what is needed for food and the litter box. The winter holidays and summer break get busy, so we recommend posting about a month in advance.

Can a helper look after my children or pets at their home?

For now, we only accept visits to the requester’s home.

How can I tell whether someone is trustworthy?

Check the ID-verified badge, reviews and profile, and we recommend meeting someone new in person or talking by video call beforehand. Please also see our approach to safety.

Can I be a helper on a student visa?

On a student visa such as F-1, you generally cannot work for pay off campus. The same applies to ESTA and tourist visas. Spouses on E or L visas are authorized to work. If you are not sure about your own status, please check with an expert such as an immigration attorney.

Do helpers pay tax on their income?

Payments you receive are generally income that must be reported. The helper guide has an overview.

What if something goes wrong?

Please contact us through Contact & report (English or Japanese). In an emergency, call 911 first.

How do I close my account?

Please contact us using the contact form and choose “Other.”
