Our approach to safety
Because members trust each other with their families, pets and homes, we put a lot of care into making the site safe to use.
What we do
- Email confirmation: only members who have confirmed their email address can post requests or make offers.
- ID-verified badge: members whose photo ID (driver’s license, passport, etc.) has been checked by our team are marked “ID verified.”
- Work eligibility: helpers confirm that they are allowed to work and be paid in the United States before they sign up.
- Reviews: after each job, the requester and the helper review each other.
- Payment after the job: we hold the payment until the work is done, and send it to the helper after completion.
- Reporting: if anything concerns you, use “Report” on any page to let us know (in English or Japanese). We review every report and take action, such as suspending accounts, when needed.
For requesters
- When asking someone new to look after your children, we recommend meeting them (or talking by video call) beforehand.
- Share your street address, keys and door codes by message only after booking.
- Always give allergies, medical conditions, pet medication and emergency contacts in writing.
For helpers
- Feel free to say no to anything beyond what you can take on.
- If a child or pet seems unwell, contact the requester right away. In an emergency, call 911.
- Sending photos and updates regularly helps requesters feel at ease.
Please report it if…
- someone asks you to pay outside the site
- someone is impersonating another person, or the person who shows up is not the person on the profile
- someone behaves in a way that makes you uncomfortable or worried about safety
Onegai USA provides a place where requesters and helpers deal with each other directly. We do not employ or dispatch helpers. For details, please see the Terms of Use.
