Cat care in Japanese while you travel or visit Japan

Cats are said to feel most at ease in the home they know. On Onegai USA, a helper visits your home to feed your cat, change the water, clean the litter box and send you updates. Because you can give instructions in Japanese, it is easy to explain medication, portion sizes and your cat’s personality in detail.

Things to decide before you post

• How often and when to visit (for example, once a day for about 30 minutes in the evening)
• Type and amount of food, any medication, and rules for treats
• How to dispose of litter and take out the trash
• How to hand over the key (in person, via a doorman, a lockbox, etc.)
• How often you would like photo or message updates
• Who to contact if your cat seems unwell, and your regular veterinarian

Typical rates

In New York and New Jersey, about $25–35 per visit is typical (it varies with the length of the visit, the number of cats and what is needed). Including a budget in your request makes it easier to compare the prices helpers offer.

Post early for the holidays and summer break

When many families visit Japan at the same time, helpers’ schedules fill up quickly. Post your request about a month in advance and, if possible, arrange a meet-and-greet with your cat before you leave.
